When applied to the paint finish,  Matrix Micro-Coatings  form a genuine polymeric film of specially modified nanoparticles with adhesion to the surface supported at the molecular level.  Instead of resting on the pores of the surface,  Matrix Micro-Coatings  form molecular attractions between atoms of the coating resin / particle matrix  and those of the surface material.  Within minutes a chemical bond is formed that fills in the porous voids of the paint exterior.  This greatly increases the physical properties of the paint finish, enhancing it with a deep rich gloss that is protected by a ceramic-like membrane for years.

 

 

Wax based products have no film forming abilities and will oxidize upon exposure to UV.  In addition, waxes require solvents to etch into the paint to secure adhesion.  The result is often a permanent marring of the finish as seen when the wax is removed.

   In addition to unparallel protection, the ceramic like polymer of  Matrix Micro-Coatings  also retains long-term release properties and  a high-angle of contact -- the angle generated by a liquid bead resting on the surface.  For example, water on the coatings will bead to form an angle of 110 while on the uncoated surface the angle of contact may be 80.  A nearly self-cleaning surface is created, that usually only requires water and a microfiber cloth needed to maintain the cleanliness of the vehicle.

 

 

PTFE / Teflon in any vehicle wax or polish comes in the form of a powder or particulate suspended in water and functions primarily as an aid in the application (post-buffing) of the product.  By the very nature of its chemistry, PTFE is non-reactive.  It can only be held in place by means of entrapment with organic binders that eventually oxidize. Since it is essentially a soft plastic like material, it is easily abraded from the surface once the protective layer is removed. Therefore, PTFE / Teflon only temporarily adds to the protective and release properties of the product before it is lost to the environment.

By chemically adhering to the finish while maintaining even greater internal bonding properties, the  Matrix Micro-Coatings resins and the matrices they form with nanoparticles will not breakdown or migrate from the surface.  That's because these linkages and their internal forces are maintained in a three-dimensional polymeric matrix, unlike the weaker two-dimensional silicone arrangement.  The result is a ceramic-like membrane of protection and enhancement that seals out all oxidative elements while sealing in a deep-gloss shine for years.  In addition, the incredible depth of gloss and layer of ceramic like protection of Matrix Micro-Coatings is totally unaffected by all types of acidic and alkaline materials, from acid rain, tree sap and bug guts to road salt and bird droppings.

 

Silicone based products are made up of small pre-polymers of silicone that are co-reacted with organic materials to form polymeric films linking together many of these units or "mers" to create "poly-mers". Yet, once the organic binders are oxidized, the silicone backbone decomposes at the surface leaving an inorganic siliceous (silicate-like) residue.  If the film undergoes premature break-breakdown due to exposure to moderately alkaline materials like some kinds of road grime (with a ph of 9 or greater) or more acidic pollutants like acid rain (ph of 3 or lower), the silicone resins will migrate from the finish making for incomplete protection and difficult removal.  Regardless  of how well maintained or how often the surface is cleaned, eventually the organic binder will oxidize due to UV exposure.  Hence the need for periodic reapplications.

The chemical bonds that hold Matrix Micro-Coatings together and to the surface are called "covalent bonds", the stronger type of bond.  In addition, further bonding strength is derived from the forces of attraction provided by incorporated nano-scale chemistries. It is this superior bonding strength that allows  Matrix Micro-Coatings to provide a lifetime of protection and enhancement for some applications, like that on vehicle paint finishes.

 

Non-polymer, non-organic type products usually exist as crystalline structures (e.g. salts or silicates) and are held together and crystallize on the surface by ionic bonding forces, a weaker type of bond.  While initially capable of maintaining continuous films, these forces are not strong enough to prevent re-crystallization of the silicate upon exposure to water and moisture.  Hence any protection afforded is a result of the silicate salt blooming to the surface of the polish before it is abraded from the paint finish.    

In conclusion, the main cause of failure of any organic based product is oxidation and the damaging effect it has on the bonds to the paint surface and within the material itself.  In contrast, the bonds making up Matrix Micro-Coatings are strengthened by oxidation.  The result is that while oxidation destroys all other paint care treatments, it actually fortifies Matrix Micro-Coatings, increasing their durability to form the most effective protection and enhancement solution for your vehicle.
